GASTAT: In the Third Quarter of 2024, 36.2% of Saudi Women are Employed

RIYADH — In the third quarter of 2024, Saudi women’s work force participation increased by 0.8 percentage points to 36.2 percent. The General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) announced this in its Labor Market Bulletin for the third quarter of 2024 on Tuesday.

Saudis’ unemployment rate in the third quarter of 2024 was 7.8%, according to the bulletin numbers. This was a 0.7 percent increase from the second quarter of 2024 and a 1% year-over-year drop from the third quarter of 2023. The third quarter of this year had a 66.6 percent Saudi and non-Saudi labor force, up 0.4 percent from the second quarter of 2024, according to the report.

In the third quarter of 2024, the labor force among Saudis increased by 0.7 percentage points to 51.5 percent, representing a 0.7 percentage point rise from the previous year. Saudis’ employment-to-population ratio increased by 0.2 percentage points to 47.4 percent, representing a 1.1 percentage point yearly gain.

Additionally, the bulletin noted that Saudi women’s employment-to-population ratio increased by 0.5 percentage points to 31.3 percent. In Q3 of 2024, the employment-to-population ratio for Saudi women aged 15–24 improved by 0.6 percentage points to 13.6 percent, while their labor force participation increased by 1 percentage point to 18 percent.

Young Saudi men’s labor force participation rose by 1.1 percentage points to 34.6 percent. The employment-to-population ratio rose to 63.7 percent, and overall labor force participation among Saudi men rose by 0.6 percentage points to 66.9 percent.

The report said that the employment-to-population ratio climbed by 0.3 percentage points to 64.8 percent and that labor force participation increased by 0.7 percentage points to 69.4 percent among Saudi men and women in the prime working-age group (25–54 years).
