As the holy month of Ramadan approaches, the Haramain High-Speed Railway in Saudi Arabia gears up to accommodate the transportation needs of millions of pilgrims embarking on Umrah journeys between the sacred cities of Makkah and Madinah. With plans to operate over 2,700 trips and provide seating for more than 1.3 million passengers, the railway stands ready to facilitate the influx of travelers during this spiritually significant period.

Enhanced Operational Capacity for Ramadan

Saudi Arabia Railways, in collaboration with the operating company, has devised a comprehensive plan to meet the heightened demand for transportation services during Ramadan. The operational capacity of the high-speed train, known for its top speed of 300 kilometers per hour, will be bolstered to ensure efficient and timely journeys between Makkah and Madinah. Covering a distance of 449 kilometers in just two hours and 20 minutes, the railway aims to streamline travel arrangements for pilgrims and visitors alike.

Launched in 2018, the Haramain High-Speed Railway plays a pivotal role in facilitating the movement of pilgrims, Umrah performers, and visitors between the holy cities of Makkah, Jeddah, and Madinah. Comprising five stations, including three terminals and two central stations, the railway provides seamless connectivity across key pilgrimage destinations. Notably, the King Abdulaziz Airport Station in Jeddah stands as the largest airport-linked train station globally, spanning over 105,000 square meters and offering direct transportation for arriving passengers.

Efficiency and Comfort: Passenger Experience on the High-Speed Train

With a fleet of 35 electric trains equipped to accommodate 417 passengers in 13 cars and five business-class compartments, the Haramain High-Speed Railway prioritizes passenger comfort and convenience. Each train features amenities such as a cafeteria and eight economy-class cabins, boasting a total of 113 business-class seats and 304 economy-class seats. By offering a seamless travel experience, the railway ensures that pilgrims can embark on their spiritual journeys with ease and comfort.
