How Israel’s Use of AI in Gaza Is Changing the Future of Warfare

London: Quadcopter drones equipped with machine guns, facial recognition cameras tracking targets, and kill lists generated from massive databases. Artificial intelligence-driven tools used by the Israeli military were crucial to the conflict in Gaza. The exceptionally high number of civilian casualties has been partially attributed to reports of inadequate human control and the brutal efficiency of AI programs to process data and generate bombing targets.

Military analysts have concluded that the world is at a turning point in how future conflicts will be conducted because of the extent to which automation and machine learning were created and deployed throughout the conflict.

The immediate path of death and devastation is only one aspect of this AI-driven conflict’s legacy for Palestinians. It is highly probable that these technology will be directed back toward the occupation, solidifying what many refer to as “automated apartheid.” Israel has long been charged with exploiting the occupied Palestinian areas as a laboratory.

It has been collecting enormous amounts of data and intelligence from Gaza and the occupied West Bank for years. In spite of this, the Israeli Air Force really ran out of targets to attack during earlier conflicts with Palestinian militant groups in Gaza in 2014 and 2021.
