Inside The Kingdom's Hajj Vision Fuelled by Technology

JEDDAH: Saudi Arabia is using one of the most intricate logistical operations in the world to organise a sophisticated, tech-driven Hajj operation this year, anticipating millions of pilgrims.

With lessons learnt from past Hajj seasons, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah is leading a national initiative to modernise digital infrastructure, simplify crowd control, and enforce permission requirements.

Ministry spokeswoman Dr. Ghassan Alnwaimi told Arab News that digital transformation is still at the core of this approach. Updated visa gate protocols, AI-powered monitoring at the Smart Makkah Operations Centre, and cooperation with security forces have strengthened crowd management,” Alnwaimi continued.

A concerted, government-wide effort, not a single organisation, is responsible for the Hajj’s success, Alnwaimi said. “Multiple ministries and agencies collaborate at every level to guarantee pilgrims a smooth journey.

These government agencies include the Saudi Red Crescent Authority, Saudi Food and Drug Authority, Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Health, and Security Forces.

Access and services are still dependent on a valid Hajj permit. The “No Permit, No Hajj” initiative makes certain that each pilgrim is tracked, recorded, and provided with complete assistance during their trip.
