At a global meeting in Rome, Saudi Arabia gave an overview of the most recent advancements and obstacles the world is facing in the fight against land degradation.
The UN Food and Agriculture Organization hosted a scientific session that was attended by a Saudi team led by Khaled Alabdulkader, CEO of the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification.
The Saudi Press Agency said on Saturday that the team also emphasized the Kingdom’s preparedness and efforts to host the 16th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification and Land Degradation, which is slated to take place in Riyadh in December.
Mohammed Al-Ghamdi, the Kingdom’s permanent representative to the FAO, as well as members from the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, the National Center for Environmental Compliance, and other government agencies involved in desertification were on the Saudi delegation.
The delegation expressed gratitude to the group and all of the involved parties for emphasizing the value of land restoration at the FAO headquarters and for their support of COP16.
It also invited everyone to attend COP16 in Riyadh and contribute to the worldwide movement to stop land degradation.
