Lilium Signs Agreement to Provide Saudia with Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing Aircraft

With a ground-breaking agreement to sell up to 100 electric vertical take-off and landing jets to Saudia, the Kingdom’s first national carrier, German aerospace manufacturer Lilium NV is making its debut in Saudi Arabia.

After originally arranging a framework agreement in late 2022, Saudia is now the first airline in the area to invest in sustainable air mobility with the formalization of this arrangement.

The acquisition of 50 confirmed Lilium Jets, with an option for an additional 50 aircraft, has been agreed to by the Saudia Group and the German producer of completely electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft.

Arab News and important industry players were present at the signing event on Thursday, which was held at the German company’s Munich headquarters.

Klaus Roewe, the CEO of Lilium, emphasized the importance of this collaboration in his address by saying, “It (the deal) signals a transformation and a readiness to shape the future.”

Saudia is a “very high-ranking, high-class airline, a very demanding airline,” according to him, making it a very important customer in an interview conducted on the sidelines of the event with Arab News.

“On the other hand, it’s also representing a nation that we think is the ideal mirror of what Lilium wants to do, since Lilium is unquestionably the most cutting-edge, most inventive product,” Roewe continued.
