RIYADH: The International Association of Public Transport for the MENA area has elected its new president to be the interim head of Saudi Arabia’s Public Transport Authority. At the association’s meeting in Hamburg, Germany this week, Rumaih bin Mohammed Al-Rumaih was chosen by a vote. He will hold the position until 2028.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, Al-Rumaih was chosen because of his experience in creating cutting-edge transit networks, overseeing domestic initiatives, and speaking abroad on behalf of Saudi Arabia.
Al-Rumaih has experience working to enhance the sustainability and calibre of urban transport, having previously held the positions of president of the Transport General Authority and CEO of the Saudi Railway Company.
During the conference, he stated, “I am thrilled to be with you today and to begin this new phase of work with a distinguished team that brings together a number of leaders and professionals.”
Public transportation, in my opinion, is about experience, fairness, accessibility, and sustainability in addition to infrastructure. Al-Rumaih emphasised the success of the Riyadh Metro system, which went into full operation earlier this year.
