The Minister on the "Discriminatory" Budget Charge Said, "Every State Benefits..."

Union Minister Hardeep Puri refuted the opposition’s accusation on Tuesday that the Budget 2024 was “discriminatory” and gave states controlled by parties in favour of preferential treatment. “The central government schemes benefit every state in the country,” he declared in a special interview with NDTV.

On Tuesday, the INDIA bloc parties resolved to protest “discrimination” against the opposition-ruled states in the Union Budget, both within and outside of Parliament. To express their disapproval of the budget, all chief ministers of the Congress party, the leader of the DMK, and chief minister of Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin, have decided to abstain from the July 27 NITI Aayog meeting.

Mr. Puri asked “all his friends in the opposition” for “read the Budget and the related Budget document, the annexure, and you will come to the conclusion that you have to pick on some better point for criticism than this because you will be laughed out of court if you only go on harping on this” .

Prior to this, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman refuted the claims made by the opposition parties, stating that the Budget had guaranteed “Rs 1.5 lakh crore assistance” for all states.
