Benjamin Wegg-Prosser, the CEO of the lobbying firm he co-founded with Peter Mandelson, has announced his resignation after evidence in the Jeffrey Epstein files revealed apparent links between the company and the convicted sex offender. Global Counsel, which the two men established after Labour lost the 2010 general election, has advised companies such as Shell and TikTok.
As initially reported by the Financial Times, Wegg-Prosser announced his resignation on Friday, concluding that his long-standing friendship with Lord Mandelson – and references to both in the Epstein files – was harming the firm and that he should go.
He has argued that he did nothing wrong.Wegg-Prosser informed his team that his leaving was “a good old-fashioned political resignation” intended to defend the company’s reputation. His profile page on the company website has already been removed. He has been succeeded by Rebecca Park, the managing director. Lord Mandelson withdrew from Global Counsel’s board of directors in 2024, soon before the general election, but remained a shareholder in the company.
In a company statement, Wegg-Prosser stated: “With the completion of the divestment of Peter Mandelson’s stake in the business, I feel that now is the time to draw a line between Global Counsel and his actions.
