Palestinians in Gaza Receive 390,000 Loaves Every Week from a Jordanian Mobile Bakery

LONDON: As Israel maintains a blockade that has kept aid from reaching the Gaza Strip since mid-March, a Jordanian mobile bakery is delivering hundreds of thousands of loaves every week to Palestinians in the region. Due to a severe flour shortage that has forced the majority of remaining bakeries to close, the bakery is one of the few still operating in Gaza, helping to feed approximately 2 million Palestinians.

Despite limited access due to continued Israeli assaults, it continues to meet the population’s critical food requirements, producing around 390,000 loaves of bread in the last week alone while operating 19 hours a day, according to the Jordan News Agency.

The bakery is distributing the bread to families throughout the war-torn region, including hard-to-reach locations, in collaboration with World Central Kitchen. This international organisation helps provide food to the people of Gaza.

Sent to Gaza in December, the Jordanian bakery can make around 3,500 loaves an hour, or 75,000 a day. It is a component of Jordan’s ongoing efforts to provide the region with medical care and other forms of assistance.

World Central Kitchen reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the people of Gaza during this challenging time. In April of last year, an Israeli drone attack murdered seven of the organization’s relief workers.
