Residents in Tehran Predict an Increase Following Israeli Attacks

TEHRAN: After their sleep was disrupted by Israeli strikes that set off explosions that reverberated throughout the city, Tehran residents woke up and proceeded with their daily activities as scheduled on Saturday. Light trails from air defence weaponry had crisscrossed the night skies, but by mid-morning, the capital had returned to its regular rhythm, with buses navigating the streets and transporting distressed Iranians to their places of employment.

Although the attack has been downplayed by Iranian officials and the media, many people in Tehran were worried that it was a fresh escalation and a step towards full-scale conflict. When Hooman, a 42-year-old factory worker, heard the explosions, he was working the night shift. He told AFP, “It was an echoing sound… terrible and horrifying.” “We fear that we will be drawn into the conflict that is currently raging in the Middle East.” Israel launched the attack on Saturday in reprisal for Iran’s October 1 missile strike, which killed a Revolutionary Guards commander and terrorist militants supported by Iran.

The ongoing conflict between Israel and the Palestinian organisation Hamas, which has recently spread to encompass Lebanon’s Hezbollah, is the setting for the most recent tit-for-tat actions. The Israeli military responded to what it described as “months of continuous attacks from the regime in Iran” on Saturday by claiming to have carried out “precise strikes on military targets in Iran.” Tehran was cautioned not to reply.
