Safadi Meets Syrian Foreign Minister to Review Syria Developments

On Friday, Jordan reiterated its backing for the Syrian government’s initiatives to safeguard territorial unity, security, stability, and sovereignty. According to a statement from the Foreign Ministry, Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi spoke with his Syrian counterpart, Asaad al-Shaibani, over the phone and expressed his nation’s solidarity.

According to the statement, Safadi emphasized Jordan’s “firm and consistent stance in supporting the Syrian government’s efforts to safeguard Syria’s security and stability, its sovereignty and territorial unity, and ensure the safety of its citizens” during the conversation between the two ministers.

Fighting erupted in Syria’s northern city of Aleppo on Tuesday when the terrorist organization YPG/SDF launched attacks from Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud on residential areas, civilian facilities, and army positions, killing nine people and wounding 55 others, and displacing about 165,000 residents from the two neighborhoods, according to the latest official figures.

In response, the Syrian army launched a “limited” military operation on Thursday, regaining control of the Ashrafieh and Bani Zeid districts. By Friday evening, Sheikh Maqsoud remained the only neighborhood outside state control.
