According to the Agriculture Ministry, Saudi Arabia's Fig Output is Now Self-Sufficient

The Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture has declared that Saudi Arabia has reached self-sufficiency in the production of figs, with an annual output exceeding 28,000 tonnes on 1,421 hectares of land around the nation.

The MEWA reported that Jazan and Riyadh are the largest producers, with yearly production in tons of 9,906 and 8,010, respectively, in a statement that was published on its website over the weekend.

Arranging from third place with 3,970 to the Northern Border 36, Al-Jouf 874, Al-Baha 790, Tabuk 348, Madinah 245, Makkah 1,635, Hail 1,033, Qassim 737, Najran 645, and Tabuk 348.

The best-selling types of figs include Madani, Turkish, Waziri, Kadota, and White King, along with local ones. The producing season runs from February to November.

As per the MEWA statement, figs are recognized for their numerous health advantages, which encompass preventing Alzheimer’s illness, controlling blood pressure, fortifying bones, and enhancing skin and hair quality.

Across the nation, the ministry is advancing fig production, processing, and commercialization through the Sustainable Agricultural Rural Development Program.

In addition to helping farmers by enhancing marketing and distribution, the government hopes to increase public knowledge of the variety of fruit options available in the Kingdom.
