Saudi Arabia Announces $90 Million Coalition to Support Palestinian Authority

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan announced on Thursday the formation of an emergency international coalition to provide direct financial support to the Palestinian Authority, with Saudi Arabia pledging $90 million to the initiative.

Speaking at a press conference in New York, Prince Faisal stressed that normalization with Israel is not possible without the establishment of a Palestinian state. The announcement came alongside the high-level ministerial meeting of the Global Alliance to Implement the Two-State Solution, chaired by Saudi Arabia in cooperation with the European Union and Norway, on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly.

He said the discussions built on the recently adopted New York Declaration, calling it a “historic international consensus” to end Israeli occupation and create an independent Palestinian state. According to the minister, recognition of Palestine has now risen to 159 countries, a strong signal that statehood has become an irreversible international demand.

Prince Faisal explained that the focus is now on transforming the declaration and recognitions into an action plan with a clear timeline and monitoring process. Priorities include an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, preserving the territorial unity of the West Bank and Gaza, and strengthening the Palestinian Authority to fully carry out its responsibilities.
