Saudi Arabia Demands a UN Security Council Resolution to Force Israel to Put an End to the Fighting and Gazans' "Starvation"

Abdulaziz Alwasil, the permanent representative of Saudi Arabia to the UN, urged the UN Security Council to approve a resolution on Wednesday compelling Israel to cease its bombardment on Gaza.

The Security Council’s own resolutions, according to Alwasil, demand an immediate ceasefire and the delivery of aid to Gaza. Tel Aviv is required to abide by these resolutions.

He claimed that Israel has to be made to abide by international law since it is the occupying power. This includes carrying out the interim measures set forth by the International Court of Justice to stop the genocide against the Palestinian people.

According to Alwasil, the UN Security Council has been convening “meeting after meeting to no avail” ever since the assault on Gaza began ten months ago.

The Israeli “war machine is deliberately targeting civilians and imposing the harshest forms of collective punishment by killing, displacing, starving, and imposing a blockade on civilians,” as the world continues to witness.

“All of these flagrant violations are happening in front of the world’s eyes, and the international community continues to turn a blind eye,” Alwasil continued.

“And this inaction allowed the occupation power, which is concealed behind a strong wall, to exploit this vulnerability and the silence of the international community to continue enforcing its brutal, inhumane practices.”

Speaking at a historic UN Security Council meeting convened by Russia, which is now serving as the body’s rotating presidency in July, was the Saudi Arabian representative. Sergei Lavrov, the foreign minister of Moscow, presided over it.
