Thus far this year, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs has finished renovations on almost 6,000 mosques throughout the Kingdom.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, the ministry spent around SR500 million ($133 million) on maintenance, cleaning, restoration, and furnishing projects at 6,153 mosques in the first half of 2024.
Over SR362 million ($96 million) was spent on maintenance at over 5,300 mosques as the main focus of these efforts.
As part of renovation work, the air conditioning systems at significant pilgrimage locations—such as the mosques of Miqat Al-Juhfah, Al-Taneem, and Al-Mash’ar Al-Haram—were updated at an estimated cost of SR15 million ($3.9 million).
According to SPA, three mosques were completely repaired and an administration building was built for SR13.5 million ($3.5 million).
A 60 percent reduction in electricity consumption was achieved by the ministry through the implementation of glass partition projects at 683 mosques in order to improve energy efficiency.
Additionally, at an expense of SR6.8 million ($1.8 million), 66 mosques with a combined space of 56,761 square meters were outfitted.
The upkeep of four connected buildings will also get around SR30 million ($7.9 million) from the ministry.
