Saudi Arabia Outlines a Bold Route to Become a Global Mining Powerhouse at the Future Minerals Forum

RIYADH: At the Future Minerals Forum, Saudi authorities and global experts discussed plans to establish the Kingdom’s mining sector as a global hub for exploration, processing, and supply chain resilience. On the second day of the event, which took place in Riyadh from January 14 to 16, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Investment Khaled Al-Falih emphasised the need for resilience in mining, characterising it as a sector marked by overcoming great obstacles.

He discussed how technical breakthroughs such as artificial intelligence, satellite sensing, and aircraft exploration are unlocking previously inaccessible resources, with profound implications for the sector. Aligned with Vision 2030, the Kingdom intends to make mining a significant driver of industrial growth, facilitating energy transitions and fulfilling rising global demand for vital minerals.

“Mining has always been a sector about overcoming extreme challenges; unlocking these minerals from the earth, the crust, and below the crust is one, not for the faint of heart,” Al-Falih told reporters. He emphasised the sector’s important role in the energy transition, warning that failure to provide adequate resources could jeopardise progress. The forum also looked into Saudi Arabia’s increasing role as a regional and global collaboration leader.
