RIYADH: Yasunari Morino, Japan’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia, attended the opening ceremony of the “Manga Hokusai Manga” exhibition here on Tuesday. The show, held at the Saudi Arabia Museum of Contemporary Art, is one of several scheduled events commemorating the two countries’ 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations. The exhibition highlights the work of renowned Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai.
Morino stated in his speech that it was a “delight to see more and more Saudi people enjoying Japanese culture from (the) traditional to contemporary.” He stated that he was pleased to see “Saudi artists being inspired by Japanese manga to create their artworks.” “I sincerely hope this exhibition will make another footprint of the Japanese culture in KSA and give a great impact in the Saudi art scene,” according to him. The show, organised in collaboration with the Saudi Museums Commission and the Japan Foundation, is open to the public until February 8.
