Saudi Arabia began its bid to host the 2034 World Cup of football on Friday. Given that no other bids were received by FIFA before the deadline late last year, the bid is almost guaranteed to be accepted.
FIFA, the world governing body, restricted the 2034 competition to bidders from the Asian and Oceania confederations because Morocco, Portugal, and Spain were scheduled to share hosting of the 2030 tournament.
Saudi Arabia, whose neighbor Qatar hosted the 2022 finals, would be the second nation in the Gulf to host the main event.
Over the past few years, Saudi Arabia has made significant investments in high-profile sports like football, Formula One, boxing, and golf, which has led some critics to charge the oil-rich kingdom of “sportswashing man rights record.
The nation disputes claims of violating human rights and asserts that its legal system safeguards national security.
It is crucial that the world hears our football story, according to SAFF President Yasser Al Misehal in a statement
The process will then move forward with the submission of the complete bid documents to FIFA in July. Towards the end of the year, a FIFA Congress will confirm the hosts for the 2030 and 2034 World Cups
