Saudi Arabia began its bid to host the 2034 World Cup of football on Friday. Given that no other bids were received by FIFA before the deadline late last year, the bid is almost guaranteed to be accepted.
FIFA, the world governing body, restricted the 2034 competition to bidders from the Asian and Oceania confederations because Morocco, Portugal, and Spain were scheduled to share hosting of the 2030 tournament.
Saudi Arabia, whose neighbor Qatar hosted the 2022 finals, would be the second nation in the Gulf to host the main event.
