Saudi Beekeepers and Artisans Shine at Azka Farmers Market

JEDDAH — The Azka Farmers Market returned with a special edition celebrating the golden richness of honey, offering a three-day event for enthusiasts eager to discover Saudi Arabia’s finest natural sweeteners. Hosted at Hayy Jameel until November 15, the market featured a lively program of activities, including interactive sessions for families and children at Hayy Explorers and expert talks at Saha led by some of the Kingdom’s top beekeepers and food specialists.

Ahmad Zaki Kamel, founder of AzkaFoods and Azkabasket.com, told Arab News that this edition was dedicated to honey for two main reasons. “It marks the start of spring in Arabia when wildflowers begin to bloom, and we’re proud to showcase beekeepers and honey producers from all 13 regions of Saudi Arabia, each offering something distinctive,” he said.

Kamel emphasized that Azka’s commitment to ethical sourcing was central to the event, with all producers using traditional Arabian bee strains rather than imported ones that threaten local biodiversity. “Our honey is raw, unpasteurized, and often organic-certified  among the finest you’ll find in Saudi Arabia, and perhaps the world,” he added.

Throughout the market, visitors met local beekeepers, sampled rare honey varieties. They attended daily talks, including a session with Faiz Al Qithamy, a leading figure in Saudi beekeeping, scheduled on the final day.
