Saudi Private Sector Hired 37,000 local Workers in August, According to NLO Data

RIYADH: According to the most recent official data, Saudi Arabia’s private sector hired 37,009 local workers in August, up 6.94 percent from 34,606 new hires in July. The total number of private sector employees in the Kingdom was 11,572,408 last month, up 0.86 percent from 11,473,341 in July, according to the National Labour Observatory. This expansion demonstrates the Kingdom’s dedication to increasing employment across the country through well-thought-out government programs meant to develop regional talent in the private sector.

It also emphasises how well Saudi Arabia’s labour policies work, supporting Vision 2030’s overarching objectives of reducing reliance on oil and diversifying the economy. Saudi nationals currently make up 2,369,828 workers overall, comprising 1,397,146 men and 972,682 women. The rise in female participation is consistent with the national objective of increased female workforce engagement and is a reflection of ongoing efforts to advance gender inclusivity.

As Saudi Arabia continues to strike a balance between the desire for a competitive and skilled labour force and national employment objectives, the contribution of foreign workers—particularly in industries requiring specialised skills remains essential. The Private Sector Empowerment Program, or Tawteen, has proven to be successful, as evidenced by the increase in first-time local hires and the overall growth in employment.
