Somalia Speaks Out: Why the Information Minister Says Israel Is Risking Global Security

RIYADH: According to Somalia Information, Culture, and Tourism Minister Daud Aweis Jama, Israel’s recognition of Somaliland and its presence in the area run the risk of escalating the situation there and enabling terrorist organizations to jeopardize regional security and stability.

Jama emphasized in a special interview with Arab News that Mogadishu’s battle against terrorist groups like Al-Shabab and Daesh has suffered greatly as a result of Israel’s historic decision on December 26 to acknowledge Somaliland as a sovereign state. The terrorist organizations will take advantage of Israel’s presence to increase their operations in the area. He stated, “They will use a pretext to propagate their beliefs throughout the area.

We have been in the final stages of overcoming the challenges of the terrorist groups Al-Shabab and ISIS,” he continued, using another term for Daesh. “That is another factor that is also risking global security and regional stability.”

“We have been devoting all of our time and resources to ensuring that we complete the last phases of the battle against Al-Shabab,” Jama continued. Therefore, we won’t be able to concentrate entirely on the operations against Al-Shabab if something else distracts us. This implies that we are providing Al-Shabab and other groups with further opportunity.
