LONDON: As Syrians commemorated a year since Bashar Assad’s overthrow last week, a study carried out within the nation revealed resounding support for the new leader and ranked Saudi Arabia as the most favored foreign ally.
On December 8, 2024, the 14-year civil war came to an end as opposition troops launched a rapid attack on Damascus, forcing the former president to leave the nation. Ahmad Al-Sharaa, who is currently president of the nation, led the campaign and has continued to work toward stabilizing Syria and mending ties with other countries.
According to a recently released survey, 81% of respondents expressed confidence in the president and 71% in the national government, acknowledging those efforts. Important institutions were likewise well-supported, with over 70% of respondents favoring the army and 62% supporting the judicial system and courts.
Arab Barometer, a nonprofit research network with headquarters in the United States, conducted it in October and November. More than 1,200 randomly chosen citizens nationwide were asked in-person questions about a variety of topics, such as security, the economy, and government performance.
