After fulfilling 80 requirements established by the World Health Organisation (WHO), Taif Governorate was granted the distinction of being the first Saudi city to renew its Healthy Cities Accreditation Certificate twice.
After a comprehensive assessment that emphasised Taif’s noteworthy parks, pedestrian areas, and health-promoting programs in schools and primary care facilities—all of which complemented Saudi Vision 2030’s objectives to revolutionise the healthcare industry—the city was granted international accreditation. Minister of Health Fahd Al-Jalajel presented the certificate to Taif’s governor, Prince Saud bin Nahar.
The Ministry of Health’s Healthy Cities Program is acknowledged as the fourth globally and the first regionally among WHO Collaborating Centres for Healthy Cities.
The program’s main goals are sustainability measures that lower the risk of chronic illnesses, raise Saudi Arabia’s ranking in global health indicators, lower medical expenses, and promote overall health in the population.
Al-Jalajel stressed that community efforts, sectoral coordination, and the continuous backing of Saudi leadership are all reflected in Taif’s accreditation renewal. The Taif Municipality, Taif University, the Ministry of Health, the Civil Defence, the General Traffic Department, and numerous other public and private organisations have all contributed to the program.
