LONDON: Israeli soldiers and settlers opened fire on vehicles carrying Palestinian laborers near Hebron in the occupied West Bank, killing one and injuring at least eight. The Palestine Red Crescent Society treated three injured people, one of whom was hit by live fire. According to the WAFA news agency, the chase and live gunfire caused vehicles to topple in the mountains of Masafer Yatta, south of Hebron.
Since October 2023, Israeli officials have revoked thousands of Palestinian work licenses, forcing laborers to seek jobs in Israel “illegally,” risking detention and fines. According to local activist Osama Makhamreh, the chase took place between Umm Al-Khair and Khirbet Fateh Sidra in Masafer Yatta. The victim, Yusri Abu Qbeita, is 31 years old.
WAFA said that Israeli forces prevented villagers and volunteers from searching for the missing and injured by firing live rounds. Last week, Israeli forces opened fire on a car carrying a Palestinian family in Tammun, northern West Bank, killing four individuals, two of them were children.Official Israeli data show that 45 Israelis, including troops and civilians, have been murdered in Palestinian attacks or military operations.
