The Greatest Honor for Indians Living Abroad goes to a Saudi-Based Physician

NEW DELHI: On Friday, Dr. Syed Anwar Khursheed, one of the most seasoned Indian doctors in Saudi Arabia, was given the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award, the highest accolade bestowed by the Indian president on citizens living abroad. Dr. Khursheed has worked in the Kingdom for the majority of his career, more than 40 years, having been born in Gulbarga city in the southwest state of Karnataka.

He was part in the COVID-19 reaction, worked for three decades at King Faisal Hospital in Taif and for almost ten years as a Royal Protocol physician in Riyadh. He has also managed critical care operations and provided medical support to Hajj pilgrims.

In addition, he founded the International Indian School in Taif and offered advice on how to start more educational institutions for the Indian population in Saudi Arabia. Dr Khursheed typically visits his homeland and family in India twice a year, but this time the visit is unique and comes with a surprising acknowledgement.

When he came to India to participate in the ceremony in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, he told Arab News, “This time, my heart rate is higher.” I was ecstatic and overjoyed when the award was revealed. I didn’t compete for the prize. I am aware of the distinction and honor that come with the award. I’m going to join a prestigious club.
