The Growing Demand for Affordable Used Electric Cars Under $25,000

Sales of secondhand electric cars and trucks have only increased since the expiration of federal purchase incentives, even though traffic at EV dealerships may have dried up. According to Cox Automotive, about 89,000 used EVs were sold in the final three months of 2025, a 13.5% increase from the same period the previous year. Additionally, secondhand electric machines are selling out in roughly 50 days, which is a little quicker than gas-powered vehicles. In comparison, last year’s fourth quarter saw a 36% decline in new EV sales.

Liz Najman, director of market analytics at Recurrent, which gives range estimates and other EV-focused data to auto dealers and consumers, stated that “affordability” is the year’s buzzword for a very good reason. “An EV with a lot of technology and a battery warranty can be purchased for 50% less if it is two or three years old.”

The US used EV market remained static for a long period. Buyers were concerned about earlier models’ batteries burning out, and there weren’t many cars for sale. However, EV batteries are turning out to be more resilient than anticipated, and in the US, their warranties typically cover at least eight years or 100,000 miles.
