According to the Ministry of Tourism, the number of foreign visitors to Saudi Arabia who came particularly for amusement and vacation increased by 656% over the first seven months of 2024.
The ministry said in a statement on the occasion of World Tourism Day, which is celebrated annually on September 27 that the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 directives had led to strong growth in the tourism industry, especially in the leisure and vacation categories.
According to the government, Saudi Arabia received 17.5 million foreign visitors between January and July 2024, up 73 percent from 2019 estimates and 10% from the same time in 2023.
The most notable development is the 656 percent rise in visitors who come for leisure and vacation. According to the ministry, in the first seven months of 2024, 4.2 million tourists arrived for these purposes, a 25 percent increase from the previous year and a significant increase from pre-pandemic levels in 2019.
The ministry noted that these outstanding outcomes demonstrate the effectiveness of the Kingdom’s long-term tourism policy, which is part of Vision 2030 and aims to make Saudi Arabia a popular travel destination worldwide. The Kingdom had aimed to welcome 100 million visitors by 2030, but it reached this target seven years early in 2023.
