RIYADH: A new art show inspired by early Saudi archaeological discovery has opened in Riyadh.
The Goethe-Institut in Riyadh, in collaboration with the German Embassy and the German Archaeological Institute, or DAI, in Berlin, recently presented “Echoes of Time,” an exhibition commemorating the twentieth anniversary of DAI excavations in Saudi Arabia. Salma Al-Khalidi curated the exhibition, which features work by Saudi artist Daniah Al-Saleh and German artist Susanne Kriemann. The Saudi art scene is amazing,” Al-Saleh told Arab News. “It’s alive and well, with various chances for artists owing to the Ministry of Culture and the government.
“This is an incredible time to be an artist, especially with the support of the German Archaeological Institute and the German Embassy. This exhibition provides an excellent opportunity to present our work and cooperate with other artists.”
The opening reception, held on September 24 at 6:00 p.m., was attended by Michael Kindsgrab, the German ambassador to Saudi Arabia, as well as numerous officials of the German Embassy and DAI.Set against the archaeological landscapes of Tayma and AlUla, the exhibition urges visitors to see the desert as a site where history and modernity meet, emphasising the need of environmental stewardship in global discussions about history and ecology.
