US President Donald Trump on Sunday raised doubts about whether former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair would join a newly proposed “Board of Peace” to oversee Gaza’s governance, amid criticism of Blair’s role in the Iraq War.
I’ve always liked Tony, but I want to make sure he’s acceptable to everyone,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One while en route to Israel. He did not specify which leaders might have concerns about Blair’s inclusion.
The idea of appointing Blair was mentioned in a Gaza peace plan released by the White House last month. However, the proposal has drawn skepticism from Palestinian officials, analysts, and even members of Blair’s own Labour Party in the UK, where his Iraq War legacy remains controversial.
Trump said the Board of Peace would begin operations soon but acknowledged uncertainty about Blair’s potential reception. The president is traveling to Israel to address the Knesset and will later attend a summit in Egypt aimed at formally ending the Gaza war, now paused by a four-day ceasefire as 20 remaining hostages await release by Hamas.
