Washington: Following their phone conversation, US President Donald Trump stated on Monday that he wished to collaborate with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in order to put a stop to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Trump said on his Truth Social network that Erdogan would meet with him in Washington and had also invited him to visit Turkiye. I’m excited to collaborate with President Erdogan to put an immediate stop to the absurd yet deadly conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Trump made a post.
Trump has been pressuring Kyiv and Moscow to agree to a ceasefire agreement since he declared he would put an end to the war in Ukraine within 24 hours of taking office in January. Since the Russian invasion, NATO member Turkiye has held two peace conferences and worked to keep good relations with both of its Black Sea neighbours.
During what Trump described as a “very good and productive telephone conversation” with Erdogan, the two leaders also talked about all things Syria, Gaza and more.Trump said that he and Erdogan enjoyed a “great” connection throughout his first term as US president, which ran from 2017 to 2021. Erdogan told Trump that US efforts to lift sanctions on Syria will “contribute” to stabilising the war-torn nation, according to the Turkish president’s office.
