UAE Launches Limited Evacuation Flights Amid Rising Tensions in the Middle East

LONDON: After the United States and Israel bombarded Iran and Iran retaliated against targets throughout the Middle East, a few international airlines cautiously resumed a limited number of flights from the United Arab Emirates on Monday, giving travelers stranded by widespread airspace closures their first chance to depart the nation.

Days of almost complete shutdowns at some of the busiest aviation hubs in the world were followed by restricted flight schedules. Tourists, business travelers, migrant workers, and religious pilgrims have been stranded across several continents as a result of the disruptions, which have also severely hampered international traffic that mostly depends on Gulf airports.

Budget airline FlyDubai and long-haul airlines Etihad Airways and Emirates, based in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, announced they would run a few flights from the nation, where air traffic was halted on Saturday, and defence systems have spotted Iranian drones and missiles.

The administration of Dubai warned that activities were still limited and advised travelers to visit airports only after being informed directly. According to the flight-tracking website FlightAware, over 90% of the planned flights from Dubai and over half of those scheduled to depart Abu Dhabi were still cancelled.

Flightradar24, a tracking website, reports that within a three-hour period on Monday, at least 16 Etihad flights departed Abu Dhabi to rescue stranded passengers, with destinations including Islamabad, Paris, Amsterdam, Mumbai, Moscow, and London.
