UK's Keir Starmer Slams Israel in the Harshest Terms yet, as Pressure Rises for Palestine's Recognition

LONDON: UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has made his toughest remarks yet against Israel, as pressure builds within and outside the government for Britain to formally recognize a Palestinian state.

Starmer’s comments come after French President Emmanuel Macron said that his country will recognize a Palestinian state, and as the two leaders, along with Germany’s Friedrich Merz, were scheduled to conduct an emergency conversation on the subject.

The agony and malnutrition in Gaza are horrible and unacceptable. While the situation has been dire for some time, it has hit new lows and continues to worsen. “We are witnessing a humanitarian catastrophe,” the UK prime leader stated.

For the first time, his speech made no mention of Israel’s right to self-defense or the hostages held by Hamas and other violent groups.

According to The Independent, Starmer “appeared to have lost his patience with Benjamin Netanyahu’s Israeli government,” and the Prime Minister appeared to be “on the cusp of being prepared to recognize a Palestinian state.

The political movement among key European nations is taking place as Israel confronts growing worldwide criticism for its conduct in Gaza. Starvation in the enclave has apparently increased in recent weeks, with at least 113 hunger-related fatalities, including 82 children, according to Palestinian health officials.
