Why Iran-US Nuclear Talks in Muscat Matter for Global Security

TEHRAN: Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has left for the Omani capital Muscat at the head of a diplomatic delegation for nuclear talks with the US that are set to take place on Friday, according to the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson.

Officials from both the US and Iran said that the two countries will talk in Oman on Friday. However, they are still at differences over Washington’s insistence that the discussions must include Iran’s missile arsenal and Iran’s promise to only talk about its nuclear program.

Esmail Baghaei, a spokesperson for Iran, said on Thursday that the country would take part in the negotiations “with authority and with the goal of reaching a fair, mutually acceptable, and dignified understanding on the nuclear issue.

Baghaei said, “We hope the American side will also take part in this process with responsibility, realism, and seriousness.”Iran will talk “with authority and with the goal of reaching a fair, mutually acceptable, and dignified understanding on the nuclear issue,” a spokesperson said.
