Why Trump’s Republican Party Claims There Is No Affordability Crisis

Why Trump’s Republican Party Claims There Is No Affordability Crisis

Almost two weeks after suffering significant losses in the elections across Georgia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Virginia, many Republican leaders maintain there are no issues with the party’s policies, messaging, or President Donald Trump’s leadership. Trump argues that Democrats and the media are misleading voters worried about high costs and the economy. GOP officials striving to avoid further defeats in the 2026 midterms are urging candidates to embrace Trump and emphasize his achievements fully.

These points emerged from private discussions, briefings, and official statements among key Republican decision-makers, including those in the White House. Their analysis reveals how closely the GOP’s future is tied to Trump, who insists the economy is stronger than ever under his watch, even as many voters experience a different reality.

Most GOP strategists avoid questioning Trump’s views, with the party more unified behind him than ever, according to Republican National Committee spokesperson Kiersten Pels. She highlighted that standing with Trump and his America First agenda is seen as the strongest path to victory.

Since the election, the White House has shifted its messaging to focus more on affordability. Trump recently cut tariffs on beef and other commodities to address consumer concerns, but continues to assert that the economy is improving and prices are falling, contradicting much media reporting. This message mirrors what Democratic President Joe Biden and his allies have long promoted without much success.
