The Riyadh International Book Fair promotes cultural Contact Between Saudi Arabia and China

RIYADH: As cultural and political links between Saudi Arabia and China continue to flourish, publishers are witnessing an increase in demand for Chinese literature from Saudi consumers.

Opening on Thursday, the Riyadh International Book Fair is an essential venue for bridging Saudi Arabia and the world. The occasion underscores the importance of translating foreign works into Arabic to promote cross-cultural dialogue, especially with China.

Bayt El-Hekma, an organisation specialising in translating Chinese literature into Arabic, is one of the main participants at the book expo. It has already translated literary masterpieces including “Three Kingdoms” and “The Art of War.”

The editorial manager of Bayt El-Hekma, Amr Moghith, stated: “I see a demand from Saudis to learn Chinese.” The market for Chinese novels is growing annually. This has been achieved cumulatively. Initially, the demand for Chinese literature was somewhat weak, although people were curious about Chinese culture, which has a rich history extending back over 5,000 years.” Although the cultures of the Chinese and Arab worlds differ greatly, according to Moghith, recent translations in both directions have generated a wave of interest.
