RIYADH: According to CNN, misleading information given to the UAE over the Saudi Crown Prince’s recent visit to Washington may have caused tensions between Riyadh and Abu Dhabi. The American news outlet claims to have learned from its sources that Saudi Arabia believes Abu Dhabi organized the separatist Southern Transitional Council (STC) forces, which it supports, in kingdom-bordering provinces after being misled into thinking that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had asked US President Donald Trump to impose sanctions on Abu Dhabi due to its alleged support for a warring party in Sudan’s civil war during a visit to the White House in November.
Additionally, according to CNN’s reporting, Riyadh has contacted the UAE to clarify that it did not make such a request.
When questioned about the allegations of incorrect information, the UAE official who talked to the American station under the condition of anonymity did not explicitly address the issue, according to the channel.
In response to a request from the Saudi Crown, President Trump did openly declare during the November visit that he had given the order for his government to step in and try to end the deadly conflict in Sudan.
