Maldives and Saudi Arabia Sign an Agreement to Improve Aviation Safety in Seaports and Seaplanes

Following a high-level visit to the Red Sea by Captain Mohamed Ameed, the Maldives’ Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Saudi Arabia and the Maldives have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in a significant step towards improving aviation safety and security, particularly in the areas of seaports and seaplanes.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) of Saudi Arabia and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Maldives establishes a framework for increased cooperation. The primary objective of the MoU is to develop safety and security regulations for water aerodromes and seaplanes in accordance with international best practices.

The event was hosted by Abdulaziz Al-Duailej, President of GACA, and Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, Eng. Saleh Al-Jasser. It took place in the backdrop of the Red Sea project, a massive endeavour spearheaded by the Red Sea Development Company to establish world-class, sustainable tourism destinations, centred around the brand-new Red Sea International Airport.

As a major entry point for upscale travel, the Red Sea International Airport will further establish Saudi Arabia as a leader in innovation and sustainable development on a worldwide scale. At the end of the visit, both parties committed to reducing aviation’s negative environmental effects by enacting creative regulatory frameworks and bolstering global cooperation.
