RIYADH: One of Saudi Arabia’s top ministers has emphasized that energy security does not have to be compromised in order to address climate issues.
During the 2024 IsDB Group Annual Meetings in Riyadh, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, the Kingdom’s Minister of Energy, remarked during a discussion session titled “Energy Security, Future of Energy, and Sustainable Development.”
His caution comes when conversations about climate change are shifting to creative solutions that balance energy security and economic growth, like renewable energy sources and cutting-edge technologies.
“We believe in the reality of the climate crisis, but we support dealing with it according to each country’s priorities,” declared Prince Abdulaziz.
“Our issue is not whether or not climate change exists; rather, it is how to address it fairly and directly, taking into account the differences in national circumstances of countries,” he continued.
The minister emphasized the value of cooperation and group efforts, pointing out Saudi Arabia’s proactive stance on climate change.
He underlined, calling on nations to band together and collaborate toward practical solutions. “The Kingdom has the second lowest intensity of carbon dioxide and methane emissions in the world, and countries that occupy lagging positions must follow our approach.
