Q2 Registrations for AI and Cloud Services Rise, Propelling the Saudi IT Sector

In the second quarter, the Saudi tech sector had robust growth, as the number of people registering for cloud computing services and artificial intelligence technology increased by 43 percent and 53 percent, respectively.

In the second quarter of this year, Saudi Arabia issued 8,948 official identity cards for AI technologies, up from 5,820 in the same quarter the previous year, according to the Ministry of Commerce’s weekly business sector bulletin. Furthermore, the number of these documents issued for cloud computing services increased to 2,358 from 1,648 during the same quarter last year.

This increase is consistent with Saudi Arabia’s great competitiveness in the global market; according to the International Institute for Management Development’s World Competitiveness Ranking, the country is ranked 16th out of 67 nations.

With 5,492 permits, Riyadh held the highest percentage of AI technology permits. Makkah came in second with 1,789, the Eastern Province with 939, Madinah with 254, and Asir with 115.

Along with this, the data showed that the arts, entertainment, and leisure industry was seeing a boom. In the second quarter of this year, 20,465 commercial records were issued, compared to 16,438 in the same period last year.

The ministry reported 336 registrations in the second quarter of this year, up from 260 in the same quarter last year, representing a 29 percent gain. This is a noteworthy expansion for the electronic gaming sector.
