Residents of the United Arab Emirates should book their tickets now if they intend to visit popular tourist locations for the five-day UAE National Day vacation, as high demand and rising oil prices could cause airfares to almost quadruple.
Travel executives say savvy tourists have already negotiated discounts and made reservations to take advantage of lower hotel rates and airfares, which have been rising over the last six months as a result of high oil costs. According to Rashida Zahid, vice-president of operations at musafir.com, fares to popular VFR locations are expected to increase by 25–35%, while fares to popular leisure destinations may treble.
We anticipate a significant increase in travel demand during the UAE National Day holidays, with residents potentially enjoying an extended five-day break,” she stated. The extent of the increase would depend on the destination, airline capacity, and how early visitors book.
Depending on seat availability and booking dates, she stated that costs on certain routes could increase by an additional 12 to 25 percent during the National Day period. She advised visitors to make reservations in advance to prevent more significant price increases closer to the holidays.
