19 Palestinian Areas Near Ramallah Face Water Shortage After Settler Attacks on Wells

LONDON: The Jerusalem District Water Department said on Sunday that Israeli settlers destroyed water wells in the Ein Samia neighborhood, northeast of Ramallah, overnight, disrupting the water flow for several hours.

According to the water authority of the Palestinian Authority, settlers disrupted the operation of wells two, four, and six in Ein Samia from Saturday at 10 p.m. until Sunday at 9 a.m. The assailants rendered the wells totally unusable by smashing windows, doors, control panels, and wires. It cautioned that attacks on the main water source would make it more difficult for people living close to Ramallah to get water in over 19 locations of the occupied West Bank. Since October 2023, Israeli settlers have upped their attacks on Palestinian residences and establishments.

These crimes, which frequently aim to force locals off their land, include shootings, vandalism, arson, and the destruction of agricultural lands and water sources. According to the Wafa news agency, Israeli officials frequently shield settlers from attacks by sending troops to accompany them and quell local opposition. The West Bank is home to over 3 million Palestinians and 500,000 Israeli settlers, excluding East Jerusalem, which Israel conquered and annexed in 1967.
