RIYADH: The Saudi Falconry Club sponsored the King Abdulaziz Falconry Festival, which Saudi female falconers said they were thrilled to be a part of.
Held at the club’s headquarters in Malham, north of Riyadh, the festival lasts until December 19 and offers awards totaling more than SR36 million ($9.6 million) for the Mazayen (falcon beauty pageant) and Al-Mellwah racing competitions.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, participants thanked the club for holding a special round for women, stating that this is an important move because it permits them to pursue their pastime professionally under stringent guidelines.
Falconer Huda Al-Mutairi, who is the first falconer with a disability in Saudi Arabia, claimed to have competed in falconry tournaments before and to have placed first.
Al-Mutairi went on to say that she has adequately prepared herself to contend for the top spot at this festival. According to SPA, the festival has hosted the largest assemblage of falcons in the world three times, setting a Guinness World Record.
Top falconers worldwide come together to honor the sport’s cultural legacy, promote competition, and guarantee its continued existence for upcoming generations.
