DHAKA: In preparation for the 2034 FIFA World Cup, which the Kingdom will host, Bangladeshi officials are updating training for potential migrant workers and will provide upskilling programs to Saudi residents.
The football governing body announced last month that Saudi Arabia had won the bid to host the biggest athletic event in the world.
Many more migrant workers will be involved in constructing new sports and transportation networks, as well as hotel infrastructure, since the bid proposes to host games across 15 stadiums in five cities.
A.Z.M. Nurul Huq, joint secretary at the employment branch of the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, said the trend is seen as a “opportunity” for Bangladesh’s migrant workers, which has a sizable expat community in Saudi Arabia.
It’s a massive undertaking, and a lot of development will be done in preparation for this World Cup event. Our migrants have been working in many areas of the Kingdom for many years with great kindness, therefore now is our chance,” Huq told Arab News. Along with the required infrastructure and connections, Saudi Arabia must construct more than a dozen new stadiums, remodel existing ones, and create a large number of new lodging options.
