Blinken states that the Region can Choose Between two options: Peace or Conflict and Aggression.

RIYADH: According to Secretary Anthony Blinken, the Middle East region has two possible futures: integration and increased peace or violence and ongoing instability.

Speaking on Monday at a joint ministerial meeting of the US-Gulf Cooperation Council to strengthen coordination on regional security in Riyadh, Blinken expressed his belief that the majority of people in the region wanted to pursue a path of peace.

For the region as a whole, there are two ways to proceed. One that is motivated by violence, division, and ongoing insecurity. Secretary Anthony Blinken stated, “The other, greater integration, greater security, and greater peace.

The current state of the region demonstrates that many of us wish to follow that positive route, and I’m appreciative of our GCC colleagues for cooperating with us to move in that direction,” he continued.

Secretary Blinken stated in his opening remarks that he saw the meeting as a chance to go forward with initiatives to encourage more stability in this area. Blinken is visiting Riyadh for three days, arriving on Monday morning, April 29–May 1, to engage with regional partners.

The secretary emphasized that he will engage with humanitarian organizations and the Israeli government to address the developments in Gaza on his upcoming trips to Jordan and Palestine.
