RIYADH: The British Council has launched an artificial intelligence-powered tool designed to help English learners improve their speaking skills through real-time practice and feedback. Called AiBC, the system serves as a complement to traditional English learning rather than a replacement for teachers. It provides learners with an interactive way to build fluency and confidence between classes through simulated conversations that mirror real-life situations.
Developed in-house by the British Council’s team of English-language experts, AiBC is built on the organization’s 90 years of experience in teaching and language assessment. Instead of multiple-choice questions, users engage in dialogue-style exercises that test practical communication skills.
“AiBC combines our teaching expertise with AI to help learners practice realistic conversations and gain confidence to speak English anytime, anywhere,” said Mark Walker, director of English and exams at the British Council.
Users can repeat speaking exercises as often as they like, with the AI providing downloadable personalized reports containing feedback on grammar, vocabulary, fluency, and clarity. According to the organization, the goal is to create a safe, encouraging environment for learners to strengthen what they learn in class.
