Building a Sovereign Defense Ecosystem: SAMI’s Vision for Saudi Arabia

RIYADH: Saudi Arabian Military Industries is speeding up its efforts to implement its 2030 strategy. The goal is to create a long-lasting national defense base that is built on deeper localization, advanced technology transfer and development, and an integrated industrial ecosystem that includes all of Saudi Arabia’s defense and security sectors.

According to Thamer Al-Muhid, CEO of SAMI, the next phase is a major turning point for the company. It will go from establishing capabilities to fully enabling industry, which will help Saudi Vision 2030 increase self-sufficiency, readiness, and military sovereignty.

In an interview with Asharq Al-Awsat, Al-Muhid said that the plan means building up and supporting military companies in the Kingdom. This will help the country become more self-sufficient and play a key part in achieving the Vision 2030 target of localizing 50% of defense spending. He stated the goal will immediately improve the armed services’ readiness and ability to carry out their missions.

He talked about the next stage on the sidelines of the recently finished World military Show in Riyadh. He said it would be a big step up from creating the foundation to expanding the military industry on a large scale, which would strengthen the Kingdom’s long-term defense readiness and sovereignty.
