DUBAI: The Israeli ambassador was contacted by the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on Wednesday to denounce what it described as “shameful and offensive violations” against Palestinians in the courtyards of Jerusalem’s Islamic Quarter and Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The ministry vehemently denounced what it called capricious actions, describing them as a flagrant breach of the Holy City’s sanctity and a grave incitement to Muslims. It issued a warning that the recurrent attacks by Israeli extremists, along with their promotion of violence and hatred, constitute a systematic campaign that jeopardises not only the stability of the region and the world but also the lives of Palestinians.
The United Arab Emirates called on the Israeli government to fully own up to the acts of its officials and settlers, hold those responsible, including ministers, accountable, and stop using Jerusalem to further extremist and violent objectives. It issued a warning that inaction would be interpreted as implicit support, which would exacerbate instability and hostility. The statement emphasised the need of respecting the Jerusalem Endowments Administration’s authority and reiterated support for Jordan’s guardianship of Islamic holy sites in Jerusalem.
In addition to calling for complete protection of religious monuments and restating its rejection of any actions that contravene international law, the UAE emphasised the significance of maintaining the city’s status quo and its symbolic of peaceful coexistence.
