During his recent visit to Riyadh, the European Union’s newly appointed director-general for MENA Gulf, Stefano Sannino, described Saudi Arabia as a vital partner for both regional and global stability while emphasizing the EU’s commitment to deepening ties with the Kingdom.
The main goal of my visit is to strengthen the relationship between the EU and Saudi Arabia,” Sannino said, stressing the Kingdom’s importance not only as an economic and energy powerhouse but also as a driver of stability in the wider region. “We are very interested in going beyond energy and exploring the opportunities created by Vision 2030 and the diversification of the Saudi economy.”
The role Sannino now holds was established by the EU just seven months ago to enhance engagement with the Gulf region. Returning to Saudi Arabia more than a decade after his last visit, he expressed his admiration for the sweeping social and infrastructural changes brought about by Vision 2030.
During his stay, he met with key institutions, investment and cultural leaders, and a diverse group of Saudi women excelling across various fields. “I wanted to gain a firsthand perspective of what Saudi Arabia envisions for the future and how we can work together,” he explained.
