Gaza Civil Defense Confirms Five Casualties After Reported Israel Strike

Gaza City: Five persons, including two children, were killed in an Israeli strike on Palestinian territory, Gaza’s civil defense agency informed AFP on Wednesday. The Israeli military said it had targeted a “Hamas terrorist” in southern Gaza in response to a fight with Palestinian militants in the region that wounded five soldiers.

“Five citizens, which included two children, were killed along with other injured, some seriously, as a result of an Israeli missile attack” in Al-Mawasi, west of Khan Yunis, civilian defence spokesman Mahmud Bassal said AFP. According to the agency, the attack “targeted” a shelter camp and occurred close to the Kuwaiti Field Hospital in Khan Yunis.

Additionally, the hospital reported 32 injuries and five fatalities, including two youngsters aged eight and ten. A weak US-brokered ceasefire that came into effect on October 10 has halted chiefly the violence between Israel and Palestinian militant group Hamas. However, both sides have accused each other of breaking its terms.

The Israeli military claimed earlier on Wednesday that during an operation in the vicinity of eastern Rafah, soldiers discovered several militants “who emerged from an underground terrorist infrastructure. An Israeli combat soldier suffered severe injuries during the engagement, while two other combat soldiers and a non-commissioned officer sustained moderate injuries, according to a statement from the IDF.
